Commercial and public establishments that provide bathroom amenities and, in particular, shower facilities, to a specific or general populace, must choose the materials from which their shower stalls are constructed. There are typically four choices: high density polyethylene (HDPE), painted metal, solid colored reinforced composite (SCRC), and Phenolic, which is a sheet of melamine covered with layers of resin-soaked paper. What is HDPE?
High density polyethylene, or HDPE, is a particular type of thermoplastic polyethylene that is molded into almost any conceivable shape. In the last decade, global production and sales of HDPE exceeded 30 million tons.
